While all eyes and ears of fans and gamers of the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise are on the possible release date, new characters, and features of the sixth installment of the open world action-adventure video game series, some gaming experts are looking into the possibility that when the game is ready a few years down the road, it will already be for the future gaming consoles.
Both Sony and Microsoft have yet to say or announce anything if they are working on a future gaming console to serve as a modern-day upgrade to the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, respectively, but there is a good chance that the two companies are doing exactly that but under the radar.
Those who know the history of gaming consoles can very well remember that Microsoft released the Xbox 360 in November 2005 while Sony unveiled the PlayStation 3 one year later.
The Xbox 360 was an upgrade to the Xbox while the PlayStation 3 was the next iteration of the PlayStation 2.
Then in November 2013, eight years from the time that Microsoft released the Xbox 360, the American tech and gaming company released the Xbox One. Also in the same month, the Japanese gaming giant Sony unraveled the PlayStation 4, which is about seven years from the release of the PlayStation 3.
Given such premise, it is possible that Microsoft will be releasing its next Xbox evolution and Sony its PlayStation 5 seven to eight years from November 2013. That puts the market release anytime from November 2020 to November 2021.
Game’s release date
Based on initial speculations, “GTA 6” is reportedly being eyed to be released by its developer Rockstar Games, anytime from 2018 to 2020.
Accordingly, 2018 is a very lofty target for “GTA 6” and Rockstar is not known for doing things in a rush. It is a company that is known to take its sweet time in game development or just about any update to its existing video games, notes Neurogadget.
Considering how Rockstar took its sweet time on the development of “GTA 5” as well as the “Online Heists DLC” on “GTA Online,” there is a good chance that “GTA 6” will finally be released around 2020.
The year 2020 is seven years from 2013, the time when the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 were released to the market. Some gaming critics believe that it is highly possible therefore that when “GTA 6” comes out by 2020, it would already be for future generation gaming consoles of both Microsoft and Sony. For Sony, the likelihood that its future generation gaming console is to be called PlayStation 5 is quite high while Microsoft can call its next-gen gaming platform as Xbox Two.
However, since both Sony and Microsoft have yet to come out with a statement to either confirm or debunk these rumors, all this information are mere speculations at this time and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
What gamers should expect
Based on the rumors and speculations about “GTA 6,” there have been reports saying that a female character might be part of the storyline and she might possess the full US map that will serve as her guide for future assignments.
While London, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, Vice City, San Andreas, and a few other locations were mentioned previously as the possible game setting for “GTA 6,” the emphasis of the rumors is that it will be the entire US map or country as the setting for the upcoming game.
There were also reports that the voice actor for the female protagonist would be Eva Mendes. In addition, Eva Mendes will be joined in the video game as a voice actor by long-time partner Ryan Gosling, who will also serve as a voice actor for one of the lead protagonists in the game.
It was actually Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar, who said in a past interview that they are planning to do a game with a lead female character, but they have not found the right gameplay for it yet. He assured gamers then that it is one of those things that they always think about, cites Crossmap.
Given the extensive experience and track record of the New York City-based game developer, Rockstar certainly has plenty of ideas for the development of “GTA 6.”
Houser said that the company has about 45 years worth of ideas that they wanted to do. While they still do not know what “GTA 6” will be, but they definitely have some great ideas and that they will be picking up the right ones when they go into the development process.
Reports have it that Rockstar Games has already started working on the development of the upcoming “GTA 6,” but given how the developer still keeps on releasing updates to the multiplayer version of the “GTA 5,” the “GTA Online,” it appears that it has yet to find time to focus on the major work at hand.
As “GTA” is regarded as a massively violent game, where gamers and players take on the role of criminal elements, there are also reports saying that gamers will already have a choice in “GTA 6” whether they will take on the role of a good guy or a bad guy.
